It's nearly CSAP time, AND it is also that time of year when students are feeling tired and their grades might go down because they're not turning in their school work. It is very important that to do well in school, students get enough sleep every night as well as a nutritious breakfast every morning. Here are a few ways in which parents can help their students stay focused at school and while completing assignments at home:
*Make sure your student has no distractions while he/she is completing homework. Talk to your student about the consequences of not doing homework or turning in assignments. Encourage your student to complete work before watching television, listening to music, or playing video games.
*Encourage your student to get a good night's sleep. This will help ensure that your student is able to focus and do better throughout the day. Try to avoid letting your student stay up late, even on the weekends.
*Have a special space with good lighting for completing homework. Most students prefer doing their homework on their beds, but that might be a little TOO comfortable and will make them want to take a nap instead.
*Get started early! It is important that students do not wait until late in the evening to start their homework. It is easier to concentrate and focus on completing assignments earlier in the afternoon.
*Be aware of deadlines/due dates. Help your student manage a timeline for completing assignments or projects. This will help your student stay on track, not fall behind, and turn in a good quality project on time.
*Encourage your student to do his/her very best!
